I recently came across an issue where every time I opened Photoshop CS6, it would open old documents. I repeatedly closed them just to have them return every time I launched Photoshop. I thought this was some sort of OS X "feature" that wasn't working properly in photoshop, so I looked around the adobe forums but couldn't find any solutions. I was really hoping there was a system or software update that would fix this issue, but updates came and went and my problem persisted. Until yesterday, when the obvious hit me... why not just right click the document tab and see if I could open it Finder? I guess Photoshop stores temp versions of documents when a crash occurs and always reopens them at launch time.
To fix this, right click the offending document tab in photoshop and select Reveal in Finder.
Then move the files in the AutoRecover folder to the Trash.
That's it, cheers!
